PETA is asking for donations of urgently needed animal care supplies—including all brands of cat litter, cat food, and dog food—to help communities in western North Carolina still reeling from Hurricane Helene. Donations can be dropped off this week at PETA’s headquarters on Front Street, the Sam Simon Center, and the group will deliver the supplies this weekend to help High Country residents and their animal companions affected by the devastating floods.

“Just like the human victims of Hurricane Helene, many animals lost everything, including their homes and the everyday essentials needed for their care,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA is asking the public to please donate litter, food, and other supplies to help cats and dogs whose families are still trying to recover from this catastrophic storm.”

Animal supply donations can be dropped off at PETA’s headquarters through Friday, October 18. Supplies can also be ordered online and mailed directly to the Sam Simon Center, 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA 23510.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
